What Is A Pet Spa? (And Why They Probably Need To Go)

Posted on April 4, 2022May 19, 2022 by Liam Hopkins

It’s true what they say about pet owners. Basically, to us, our pets are like our children. We’d do anything for them and everything for them. On the low-end of that spectrum, that includes making sure they are properly fed, loved, and cared for. After that, some of us go that extra step and ensure they are properly groomed. This includes regular baths and haircuts as well as some dental and nail care.

Then there are those of us that have gone even further and checked their little cutie into a grooming spa and resort. These spas offer that additional level of luxury and treatment for your pet and are a great way to destress your furry family member from the regular hustle and bustle of life or a particularly stressful past event.

How Do Pet Spas Work?

Pet spas and resorts work very similarly to human spa resorts in that they are meant to cater to and pamper the recipient, relieving them of stress entirely. This often includes the basics like baths & shampooing, massages, dental & ear cleaning, as well as nail trimmings.

Some pet spas include pet training as well as regular walks. Pet resorts like Puparazzi LA offer overnight stays in cage-less rooms so your pet can enjoy their time without feeling trapped. You want to find a highly respected pet spa that will include many of these features as well as a proven track record and reviews before entrusting them with your pet.

Signs Your Pet May Need A Visit

We often like to think that we’re doing everything we can for our pets, and while that’s generally true, there’s also the reality that certain factors that we don’t even think about can be highly upsetting and stressful for them.

As with humans, stress can play a huge factor in an animal’s health. The more stressed they are, the more likely they are to catch various diseases and illnesses, suffer injuries, or suffer malnutrition. By recognizing some of these signs, beforehand, we can often reduce the chance for much more serious issues to arise.

  • Their Eating Habits Have Changed: Whether you’ve noticed your dog or cat eating more or less than normal, that’s rarely a good sign on its own. Like humans, when a pet is introduced to stressful situations or environments, their appetite may be all over the place.
  • They’re Not As Energetic: This is particularly true with cats, though you can see this with younger dogs as well. Yes, you may just have a chill pet, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. Specifically, this is about a normally playful and lively pet suddenly becoming demure and quiet. If you’ve noticed this (or noticed that you have a hard time finding them), they may be dealing with some stress.
  • They’re Too Energetic: On the other hand, a cat that’s racing around the house or a dog that’s barking long into the night can also be signs that they’re stressed. The reality is that animals don’t just do things for no reason. More often than not, their actions are tied to a change in their outside settings, often creating a stressful situation for them.
  • They’ve Become Un-Potty Trained: Lastly, one of the most immediate signs that “something” is wrong with your pet is if they seem to have forgotten where to do their business. If you see that they’re doing their business in parts of the house suddenly, that is either due to an illness, injury, or a great amount of stress. No matter the cause, it’s something you should look into.
