Reasons Why You Might Need Dental Surgery

Posted on September 16, 2022October 26, 2022 by Liam Hopkins

When most people think of getting dental surgery, they are usually worried about the pain and inconvenience associated with having a tooth or jaw removed. However, there are many other reasons why someone might need to go under the drill in order to solve their dental problems. Below are common reasons why you might need dental surgery, along with tips on how to keep your mouth healthy and avoid these problems as much as possible in the first place.

1. For Tooth Growth

There are instances when a person is born with a tooth that does not properly fuse with the surrounding bone and gum tissue. This is known as an ectopic eruption and can cause problems with your bite in the future, as well as heightening your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, if the tooth is coming in at an odd angle, it can adversely affect the growth of your other teeth and potentially cause pain or structural issues.

2. To Move Teeth Into Correct Position

Sometimes, a person’s teeth do not line up properly as they are growing. This can cause pain and could even lead to one or more of your teeth being misaligned or missing. In order to correct these issues and make treatment easier, a dentist can pull and realign the appropriate teeth to achieve symmetry in the mouth, which creates the ideal environment for strong and healthy gums.

3. To Get Rid Of Tumors

If you are diagnosed with a tumor or cyst that is growing in your mouth, this is a potentially serious situation that could have an adverse effect on your oral health. Sometimes, the only way to get rid of these growths is to remove them surgically. If they are left untreated, they could cause more serious complications such as infection or the development of cancer.

4. To Relieve Pain Due To Teeth Crowding

It is natural for our mouths to shrink as we age. Over time, one can lose teeth and have difficulty chewing food. In order to alleviate this pain and make eating easier, a dentist might pull a few teeth in order to open up the mouth and make room for the rest of your teeth. In addition, it is common for people with crowded teeth to develop severe cases of tooth decay or gum disease because there isn’t enough room for the toothbrush to properly clean teeth and gums.

5. To Remove Teeth That Are Lost Or Damaged

Sometimes, teeth are lost due to tooth decay or injury. A dentist can remove decayed teeth and replace them with new ones. In addition, a dentist may be able to remove small chips or pieces that have been knocked out of your teeth by biting on something sharp. This can prevent further problems in the future

Doctorwisdom.com recommends that you visit your nearest dentist as soon as possible in order to prevent serious dental problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease. With proper care, it’s possible to keep your teeth healthy and avoid the pain and financial burden of much needed dental surgery.
